The Screaming Bard

February 2005

This was a process. Initially, I'd planned on making this design very stylized and distorted, though as I went on, it became less and less so. Certain elements, like the mouth and nose, remained fairly idiosyncratic, though otherwise, the proportions are fairly standard to the genre.

This character came out of a time when I was playing a whole lot of Dungeons and Dragons, and, though this was't inspired by any particular character, it was inspired by my observations of the current style of artwork in core D&D books: The fashins of the characters tend to be basically medieval in tone, while at the same time looking like they're the products of a more technologically advanced society. This aesthetic appealed to me, and I created this bellowing fellow with this in mind.
