Crag King

(portrait)

February 2004

A facial detail of the Crag King design I did here.

I wanted to give this fellow the sort of shading you might expect of a really good portrait drawn of a willing subject. I like how it turned out.

Parrt of my design philosophy with this design was to give it skin which felt like that of a squid. I cleaned a squid with the intention of coooking it some time earlier, and was really struck by just how different they were from land mammals in so many ways. The sort of sheath of flesh hanging down the back of the head in particular was reflective of this, as are the little spots throughout the design.
