The Lizard Prince

This piece was inspired by a couple of different factors, some of them too complex to be worth going into here. Suffice it to say that I wanted to see what I could do with a blend of reptillian and avian traits, in a vaguely humanoid mold. The extremely colourful plumage was an inspiration which came to me late in the game (initially, I had thought of making it more reminiscent of an emu's dark colouration), but once I thoght about it, it made perfect sense to me. I modelled it loosely after certain breeds of parrots I'd seen.

The non-feathered parts of the body were largely modelled after crocodiles, particularly around the eyes. Indeed, most of the colouration of the flesh and eyes were sampled from some crocodile pics I had found online. My one regret here is that, on the scale I was drawing this creature, I wasn't able to include any micro-fine little scales in transitional areas between bare flesh and feathers, given that a larg part of my design philosophy here involved the idea that feathers are essentially just very specialized scales, and should grow in similar patterns on such a creature's hide.
