Skitter

April 2004

Okay. This is by far the single most time-intensive piece I had ever completed up to this point, and I am giddy to look at it.

Certainly a conceptual piece, this creature was conceived as an ambulatory mollusc-like creature, with fleshy, boneless flesh surrounded by a thick, lumpy shell at various critical points. The mouth, in particular, I see as a work of horror: a muscular, fleshy tube which can distend and wrap itself around a victim, and whose interior surfaces bristle with tiny, razor-sharp teeth which grind it into bloody mulch before it is slurped down the neck and into the armoured torso of this off-putting beast.
