Study #4 : False Prophets

Modern-day christtianity is based primarily upon the principle that anyone who can bribe St. Peter at the pearly gates with enough good deeds will be able to enjoy heavan instantly upon death. We already went over this a bit in Study #3. The Pearly gates, and in fact, heavan it's self won't even exist in a way humans can access them until the end of the world,, so says the bible. This is based upon the prophesies of Jesus, John, and to a lesser degree, Peter.

The bible has a few things to say about prophets and prophesies.

Deuteronomy 18:18-22 " I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him. If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account. But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death. You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord? If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him."

This is Moses talking here, laying down the law from the old man in the sky. Now, as we learned in Study #1, Jesus fully supports everything Moses had to say, and that includes this part here. As it so happens, Jesus gave some pretty specific information regarding the end of the world, as did John. They contradict each other in places, but they do agree on one point...

Matthew 16:28 "I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."

...and...

Matthew 24:34 "I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened."

John and Peter re-enforce this idea, in their own turns...

1 Corinthians 7:29 "What I mean, brothers, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they had none; those who mourn, as if they did not; those who are happy, as if they were not; those who buy something, as if it were not theirs to keep; those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away."

Revelation 22:10 "Then he told me, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, because the time is near."

The point that each of these three have to make in their prophesies is thus: The end of the world is coming within one generation. therefore, by the year 100 or so, the Apocalypse should have beeen here.

It wasn't.

Their prophesies never came true.

And what did Moses (who Jesus fully supports) have to say about prophets who's prophesies don't come true?

"If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken."

Which makes Jesus, Peter, and John what?

False prophets.

Boo-yah.

And in that Jesus DIDN'T have a direct line to god, it seems to me that the entire foundation upon which christtianity is built begins to crumble.
